WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS

1/23/23 - 1/27/23

  • If you are interested in joining the SVHS Boys Tennis team for the 2023 season, please call or email Head Coach Scott Goodrich. All are welcome!

    Our first practice is Wednesday, Feb 6th 3:45 - 5:30pm.

    You will need to complete the Family ID registration (see SVHS website) in order to practice.

  • Baseball tryouts are Monday, Jan. 30th through Wednesday, Feb. 1st, after school. You’ll need to have had a physical prior to tryouts AND it must be uploaded to the school’s FamilyID page. Please wear baseball pants, t-shirt, hat and cleats. Cuts will be announced Thursday, Feb. 2nd. Winter sports athletes will get their tryouts after their winter sport ends.

  • Boys golf sign ups and meeting on Feb 14th at lunch (1:15) outside the gym. Please fill out the registration on FamilyID if you plan to play.

  • Awesome news for those interested in playing softball for the Falcons. For the first time in years, our goal is to have two softball teams- JV and Varsity.

     

    Please come out and be part of something special. We are excited about getting the season started. If you have any desire to play, please attend tryouts on Monday, Jan. 30 at 4. 

     

    All Varsity tryouts are Monday, Jan. 30th at 4. Dress in full softball gear. Must have Family ID completed with your physical attached to tryout.

  • We are looking for students who represent our RIC values and school spirit to be part of the Shadow Day Ambassador Program. If you are interested, fill out the Google form on our Shadow Day page on the school website or see Neelu or a counselors if you have any questions.

  • Spanish Club will be selling bracelets and purses from Jan 17th-27th at lunch by the Student Store. Stop by the table at lunch to participate in the Pulsera Project.

  • Boys Volleyball informational meeting at lunch on Wed, Feb 1st in Ms. Anderson's classroom C508. Please come to check in and get more details about the season. Tryouts will be 2/13 and 2/14, see website for more info.

  • Official Track practice starts Jan 30th at 3:45. Meet on the track. You must have all paperwork/physical finished on FamilyID. If you are in a winter sport, you need to finish your sport.

  • Come out to the SVHS Band and Choir Concert! Thursday, Jan 26th at 7pm in the Student Union. Enjoy a snacak from our bake sale while you listen to some great music. See you there!

  • Attentions Sophomores and Juniors- Don't forget to sign up for the Pre-ACT that will be help this Saturday, January 28th at 8am.

  • Seniors! Don't forget about the Scholarship workshop tomorrow, 1/25, during Tutorial in room E101.

  • There is a Valentine's day See's Candy fundraiser going on right now. The link to purchase is on the homepage of the SVHS website. The deadline to purchase is Jan 27th so make sure to buy them soon.

  • This is the last week Winter Formal tickets will be sold. Make sure to stop by the student store at either break or lunch. Tickets are sold for $45 w/ASB and $50 without.

1/17/23 - 1/20/23

  • If you are interested in joining the boys tennis team for the upcoming season, please contact Head Coach Scott Goodrich.  His contact details are located on the SVHS website. 1/9/23 - 1/13/23

  • There will be an informational meeting for Girls Lacrosse this WEDNESDAY, Jan 11th at lunch at the back of the gym. All are welcome! No experience needed. Come hear what it's all about.

  • Auditions for the Spring Musical "Something Rotten" begin Jan 16th! Vocal auditions are Jan 16th and 17th; dance auditions are Jan 18th and call backs are Jan 19th at 3:45. Please prepare a 1 min of musical theatre song with an accompanying piano track. Sign up for a vocal audition spot on Mrs. K's website. Break a leg!

  • There is a Battle of the Bands meeting at break, 1/11 on Wednesday in Ms Fisher's room.

  • Anyone interested in Boys Lacrosse or Boys Volleyball this year please go to Coach Walter's office at break or lunch to sign up.

  • Sign up for the Dodgeball Tournament all week at break or lunch in the student store. Tournament is Thursday, 1/19 in the gym 6-8pm.

  • 1/10 Seniors don't for that today is the last Cabrillo Application Workshop from 1:15-3:30 in room M10. Come work on your application and get your questions answered.

  • Baseball conditioning is resuming Tuesday - Friday schedule after school until 5pm.

  • JV Girls soccer won the Firebird Classic Tournament over the break.

This will be their last application workshop here at SVHS so be sure to come if you haven't already submitted your application. See Amy Paul in the College and Career Center with any suggestions.

  • We are please to announce the return of our Student Ambassador Program for our Shadow Day Events. For more information see Neelu or your counselor.

12/12/22 - 12/16/22

  • JV Girls Soccer beat Christopher 2-0 on Saturday. Hayden and Darla scored.

  • Varsity and JV Girls soccer beat the North Salinas. Varsity won 2 -0; JV 9-0.

  • Auditions for the Winter Play are this Friday, in room E201.

12/5/22 - 12/9/22

  • Are you in need of community service hours? The Elk's Lodge needs help at their Christmas Tree lot. Help is needed all next week. See Amy Paul in the College and Career Center to sign up.

  • JV Girls soccer beat Cupertino 6 - 0. Darla scored 3 goals, Salma, Zoe and Maya all scored. Defense didn't let any plays get past them.

  • 9th, 10th, and 11th graders: come to the front office and pick up your school photos.

  • The Play That Goes Wrong opens this Thursday!! The show runs Dec 8, 9, 10 at 7pm. Tickets are $12 for students and $15 general admission and are available online or at the door. Don't miss it!

  • Attention Sophomores and Juniors: The correct PSAT scores are available for pick up. See Ms Tansy in the office during break or lunch.

  • The Christmas tree lot needs help today, 12/6. So far, we do not have anybody signed up. They also need volunteers for this Thursday. The tree lot is a fun way to earn community service. See Amy Paul in the College and Career Center to sign up.

  • 9th, 10th and 11th graders - come to the front office and pick up your school photos.

  • Auditions for student run Winter Play are next Friday 12/16 a 1:30pm in the drama room E201. No monologue needed. Come ready to read sides and have fun. Any questions - Ask Ms. K.

  • JV Girls soccer beat Fremont HS 4-0. Goals were scored by Maya, Darla and Hayden scored twice.

  • On Friday the 8th there will be a fundraiser for the sophomore class at Los Gatos on Victor Square. Come out and make sure to say that you are from SVHS.

11/28/22 - 12/2/22

  • Spread the wonder this holiday season with Winter Wonder-Grams. The SVHS Choir will be selling singing grams fro $5 at the student store starting Mon Nov 14th-Nov 18th, and again after break until Dec 1st. Grams will be delivered between 2nd and 7th periods on Dec 5th. Happy Holidays from the Music Department.

  • Attention SVHS- Winter Wishes are happening at break everyday this week. Get any wish if your choice granted.

  • Blood Drive sign ups are going on at break at the Student Store.

  • Seniors - if you are planning on going to Cabrillo in the fall, please come to the Cabrillo Application Workshop today, 11/30 from 1:15-3:30 in room M10. Cabrillo Counselors will be helping guide you through your applications and troubleshoot with you if needed.

11/14/22 - 11/18/22

  • Today, 11/14, during lunch there will be a table in the quad promoting Unity against Hate Day. Be there and share your ideas to stop hate, some answers will be put on the ASB Instagram.

  • Blood drive sign ups are going on right now. They are at break outside at the student store.

Seniors - reminder to those in the Hall of Fame/Superlatives, pictures are being taken today and tomorrow (Tues & Wed) at the field next to the office at break. See you there.

  • Cross Country, JV and Varsity Football and Volleyball pics have arrived. You can pick them up in the Front Office.

  • Are you in need of community service hours? The Lion's Club needs help with their Christmas Tree lot. It is a fun time and they will even provide you dinner! They need 3 to 4 students per shift. See Amy Paul in the College and Career Center to sign up.

  • Canned food drive is happening right now! Bring in some cans to your 2nd period class. The class with the most cans gets a donut party.

  • Model UN Club is hosting a bakesale at the SV Safeway on Saturday, Nov 19th from 1-5pm. Be sure to stop by.

  • Covid Testing will be in the gym foyer this week.

  • Do you have a free 5th period? Do you want a warm and quiet place to study? Do you need extra help on the assignment? Come to Ms Hart's room, C603 during 5th period for study hall.

  • 11/8 at 10:00, the University of Arizona will be here in the College and Career Center.

  • Any returning or incoming baseball players please meet on Tuesday, Nov 8th @ 1:15pm in the quad behind the gym.

  • Looking for a dry place today during lunch? The gym will be open at lunch to hang out or play ball. Please finish eating before joining.

10/24/22 - 10/28/22

  • Remember, Tuesday is Dress of Success. Either wear clothes that represent an occupation you are interested in, or just dress professional.

  • Don't forget about the Cabrillo College Fair Monday. Over 50 colleges will be there to answer questions and give out swag. Go to the Aptos location from 6-8. Food trucks will also be onsite in case you don't have time for dinner.

  • College visits this week - Tuesday, 9:00 University of the Pacific, 10:00 University of Portland and at 11:00 University of Redlands. Friday, Sonoma State will be here at 12 and Syracuse at 2:45.

  • Seniors- stop by room C301 during tutorial with you laptop for some structured and supportive time to work on college applications. Please get permission from your Tutorial teacher.

  • Seniors - submit your senior quote and all of fame nominees by November 1st in order to be included. Check the Senior Google Classroom or your English Google Classroom to find the forms to submit.

  • Covid Testing with Inspire will be in the gym foyer this week and not the Student Union. Testing is from 1-3pm.

  • Trades Day is coming up on Tuesday, Nov 15th from 10:30-12:30. This event will be held at the Santa Cruz Civic and focus on construction, welding, roofing, mixing cement and more. See Amy Paul in the College and Career Center to sign up. Deadline is Thursday, Oct 17th.

  • Cross Country meet at SVHS on Tuesday, Oct 25th. Boys race at 4 and girls at 4:30. We will be honoring our seniors. Come and support our boys and girls cross country teams. Both teams are ranked top 10 in the state.

  • The SVHS Interact Club will be hosting a book drive until the end of the week. The donations will be going toward the Friends of Santa Cruz Public Libraries. Books will be collected through the English Department and the teacher with the most donations will receive a candy prize.

  • California Math Contest on Thursday, 10/27 in E101. Exam is 30 minutes long, 6 questions. Takes place during lunch.

  • Boys Volleyball open gyms this week Monday and Wednesday from 3:30- 5 in our gym. Come out and play!

  • Girls Basketball tryouts begin NEXT WEEK. Monday and Thursday from 4-6pm. See you there.

  • Attention all seniors, if you have a sibling at our school then please bring yourself and your sibling to the attendance office today or on Friday at break or lunch to be included in the Senior Sibling portion of the yearbook.

  • Remember 4 corners, wall ball and gaga ball? The Nostalgic Game Club will be having their first meeting in Friday, Oct 28th in the Quad. Join us to talk about fun games we can play together at school.

  • Because Saturday was the end of HIspanic Heritage month there will be candies in the student store at lunch to celebrate- 10/17/22

  • College visits UCSC will be here at 10:00 and the American University of Paris will be here at 2:00pm on 10/18. Thursday, Santa Clara University will be here at 12:30.

  • Attention Juniors and Seniors! If you have a high GPA and want to be part of a nationally known honor society, you should join CSF! Application packets for the spring 2022 semester are due on Friday the 21st. Sophomores can join after this semester ends! Go to SVHS website for application forms.

  • Seniors, do you need some time and help to work on your college applications? Come to the first college application workshop Wednesday anytime during lunch or 6th period in room M11. Bring your laptop.

  • Girls basketball will meet Oct 20th at lunch in C703.

  • Interested in playing boys volleyball this spring? Come to an open gym this Wed, Oct 19 and Friday, Oct 21 from 3:30-5 in our gym to run some drills and get back in the swing of things. Bring your knee pads and a friend! Check the website for details.

  • Make sure to buy your yearbook with the Halloween discount. There are posters all over campus for them.

  • 10/18 is the last girls volleyball home game vs SLV and Senior Night around 6:15pm. Frosh game is at 4:30, JV at 5:30. Varsity game follows senior night presentation.

  • IB Exam Registration is due this Friday. Registration links are on the school website. See Mr. Postovit if you have any questions.

  • Santa Clara University will be coming at 12:30 on Oct 20th. Next week the University of Pacific, University of Portland, University of Redlands, Sonoma State and Syracuse University will be here.

  • Cabrillo College is having a College Fair on Monday night from 6-8pm. Over 50 college and universities will be there. You can go visit all the admission counselors in one evening! Event will be held at their Aptos location,.

  • Next week is College & Career Awareness Week! Each day we have something planned. Monday is "wear your college t-shirt day" So - if you have a college shirt of somewhere that you would like to attend, wear it!!

  • Hey Freshmen - We are hosting a fall bake sale this Sunday from 2:30-4:30 at Safeway. Come out and support and get some yummy treats.

10/10/22 - 10/14/22

  • Seniors! If you are considering applying to Cabrillo next fall, come to a Cabrillo application workshop Wednesday, from 1:15-3:30pm in room M10. Please see Amy Paul with any questions.

  • College Visits - Tomorrow the University of Connecticut will be here at 9am and the University of Puget Sound will be here at 2pm.

  • There will be a meeting for those interested in girls soccer, Monday Oct 10th during lunch in the gym Tryouts are Nov 2-4, 4pm-5:30pm on the turf.

  • SVHS is hosting the PSAT on Oct 15th. Juniors and sophomores can sign up with Leigh or Neelu at the front desk until Oct 10th. Please bring $25 cash or check to register.

  • Monday, Oct 10th the pride flag will be flown in support of LGBTQ+ History Month. Stop by the office at break on Monday morning to watch it be flown.

  • Oct 11th is National Coming Out Day and to celebrate we will be giving out rainbow pins at lunch.

  • The homecoming dance is this Saturday 10/15 in the Quad. Doors open at 7:30 and close at 8:30. Tickets in sale all week in the student store: $3 with ASB Seal, $5 without. There will be a limited number of tickets for sale at the door so buy ahead at school to ensure entry. Must have your picture ID to get in.

  • We have some fun community service opportunities for you. Sept 24th is the MY VIP and Me dance. They need people to help set up, tear down and most fun of all to dress up as fairies and mingle with the kids. Also, the Pug Rescue is hosting a "Pugoween" on Oct 9th. This will be a pug adoption event where there will be games, costume contests, and more. If any of you DJ, they also need someone to DJ the event! You will get a free lunch. Visit Amy Paul if interested.

  • This week is a busy college visit week! Tuesday, Oregon State, USC and Southern Oregon University will be here. Wednesday, Saint Mary's and UC Merced will be here and on Thursday, the University of San Francisco will be here. Go to your Naviance account to sign up or see Amy Paul in the College and Career Center.

  • Last minute college visit announcement -UC San Diego just added and will be here Tuesday, Sept 20 at 10:00. Go on to your Naviance account to sign up.

  • We have lots of college visits this week. Tomorrow we have Oregon State University at 9:00, USC at 11 and Southern Oregon University at2:00.

  • Haunted House Makeup auditions are this Wednesday after school at 2:30pm. Please register to audition at svhaunt.org/register by Tuesday and contact Sofia Guimaraes with questions.

  • Trivia contest in E101 on Thursday the 22nd. Please bring a team of 3 or a group of friends. Topics range from science to history to sports.

  • ST Mary's college will be here at 9L00 and UC Merced at 11 - 9/20. All visits in the College and Career center.

  • If you are interested in hosting a booth with your club at Haunted House, come to Fisher's room at break today!

  • Want to get some exercise during lunch or just want a place to hang? Join Mr L in the gym but be sure to finish your good before entering.

  • University of SF will be here Wed at 9am.

  • It's National Banned Books Week. Stop by the Library and see our display. Read the stories behind each book ban.

  • There is a Homecoming Meeting for seniors in Taylor's room at break. Please come and sign up or learn more about float, lip sync or both.

  • There will be a Code Red practice drill today at Tutorial. There will be no class switching.

  • Cross Country meet Thursday versus Aptos and SLV at 4:30. Come out and show your support.

Falcon News:

  • Hopefully yesterday you were able to actively respect the community, by shopping locally and being respectful and kind. Today is the last day of respect week: respect your school day! SVHS is a great place where you can learn, meet new friends, and participate in a multitude of sports and extracurriculars. 

  • To respect your school, you should avoid littering and defacing the campus, always be respectful inside class and while at break and lunch, and be respectful and kind to all the students and staff. Get involved in your school by joining a club, sports team, or drama performance offered on campus.

  • At lunch, stop by the club fair and check out all the amazing clubs at SVHS! Also, remember we are on an assembly schedule, we will see a presentation from Rachel’s Challenge in the gym at the end of 2nd period, all HOPE squad members, remember that the “Friends of Rachel” training taking place during 4th period today. 

  • Thank you all for participating in respect week, we hope you were able to learn something this week that you can use in your everyday life.

  • Today the gym will be open to students during lunch. If you need some shade or want to shoot some hoops, stop by and enjoy the gym. Remember, no food allowed.

Falcon News:

  • the seniors will be selling raffle tickets for 5$ each in the student store 

  • the sophomores, juniors, and seniors will be selling class t-shirts and merch in the student store at lunch for all of this week! 

  • on Saturday, September 10th at 7pm, the SVHS falcon club will be hosting dinner and a movie on the football field to help support SVHS athletics. 

  • get some community service and have fun by joining the key club! The key club will help you earn community service hours, which will benefit the SVHS music department and the big brothers and big sisters foundation. the first event will be music at sky park on august 28th! contact Trinity Stenton for more information 

  • If you are interested in starting a new club or taking over an old club there will be a club meeting next week on Wednesday 8/24 at break in Ms. Fishers room C302!

  • there will be a football jamboree this week! the varsity jamboree will be held on Friday, august 19th, while the JV jamboree will be on Saturday, august 20! hope to see you there! 

  • there is a JV volleyball jamboree this Saturday the 20th! come out and support girls volleyball! 

  • next week, starting Monday the 22nd, the freshmen will be selling class t shirts in the student store at lunch for 15$ cash or check. for any class of 2026 updates, follow their account on Instagram @svhs_classof2026

  • Attention Falcon lady golfers, the defending SCCAL girls golf team returns this year looking to repeat as champions with another undefeated season! For those interested in playing golf the fall we will be meeting on Monday 8/15 at lunch outside the gym. Check out the school's website for more details about requirements and eligibility.

  • Are you interested in playing video games, either casually or competitively? Would you like to be involved in Esports tournaments against other schools? Perhaps you would like to learn how to play the famous tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons, and make a few new friends? Come by the computer lab M9 on Wednesday 8/17 during lunch for more info about SVH Game Club, where all gamers are welcome.
