Weekly Announcements 2024-25:

11/18 - 11/22

  • Congratulations to our SVHS Varsity Smash Bros team for making the playoffs for the Fall California eSports Season! Of 293 high school teams, Our Varsity falcons ended the regular season ranked 22nd, guaranteeing them a spot in the top 32 bracket for state playoffs next week! Our first playoff game will be Today, right after school in room M9. Friends, Family, and Staff are all welcome to come and support our team for this single-elimination tournament, to see if we move on to the next round. So come on down to M9 today after school, and Lets-a-Go Falcons!

  • Students interested in trying out for the boys golf team are encouraged to attend a meeting Tuesday, Nov 19th at 3:45 in Conference Room B.

  • All college-bound seniors: if you have been accepted to any school, stop by the College and Career Center to add your photo to our "Accepted Board."

  • The canned food drive is going on until the 21st. Make sure to bring all extra cans you have to your 2nd period classes to be collected! Come support people in need! The grade with the most cans wins a prize for the entire grade! We have a school goal of 2500 lbs to celebrate 25 years of SVHS. Let's do it Falcons!

  • Congratulations to the Girls Cross Country Team for winning CCS on Saturday and good luck at State! Should out to the Boys Cross Country runner Aaron Weiss for making it to state as an individual and toe Ava Decleve for being the Division 4 champion!

  • Extend summer this week Thursday with The Wellness Center. Jamba Juice will be on campus again - treat yourself to a Jamba Juice smoothie during break Thursday. $7 each, cash or card accepted.

  • Good luck today to Sofia Niklaus and Erin Szymanski today as they compete in the CCS Tennis Championship today.

  • Join the Hope Squad during lunch today to celebrate gratefulness. Have some hot cider with whip cream, make a turkey hand for someone you love and write a note of gratefulness for your favorite teacher.

  • Come grab a slice of Pizza at the downtown Pizza My Heart this Wednesday evening! ASB is having a fundraiser so make sure to say you're from SVHS.

  • If you are a senior considering Cabrillo next year, bring your laptop to C703 today at lunch. A representative from Cabrillo will be here to help with the application and to answer any questions you have.

  • Planning on doing some fall cleaning during the break? Bring your donations to the Goodwill Donation Drive that the Drama Club is doing on December 8th from 9:30-3:00 in the parking lot. Questions? Contact Mrs. K

  • The Fall Play "Leading Ladies" opens Friday, Dec 5th! The show runs Dec 5,6,7,12,13, and 14 at 7pm in the Student Union. Tickets are $13 for students and $15 general admission and can be bought online the Plays and Musicals page of the website or at the door. See you there!

11/12 - 11/15

  • Girls Soccer tryouts are on Monday November 4th and Tuesday November 5th from 4pm-6pm. Meet at the turf field. Make sure to have all your FamilyID paperwork completed and a physical uploaded! We can't wait to see you there!

  • Sophomores - are you interested in IB courses or earning the IB Diploma? Come to 10th grade IB Information Night and bring your parents. The program starts at 6:30 on Wednesday.

  • Nov 6th is our annual Dodgeball Tournament from 6-8pm in the SVHS gym. Make sure to gather a team of 8-10 people from any grade or school and sign up by scanning the QR code on the SV Instagram post. We will also have a table on Wednesday at break for sign ups! There will be music, dodgeball and ice cream for all! Don't miss out.

  • Girls volleyball is hosting the second round of CCS tonight at home. Come cheer on the Falcons as they take on Monte Vista. Game starts at 7pm!

  • November is National Scholarship month. So seniors, make sure to check Naviance, stop by the College and Career Center or start up your own research to find free money to help fund your college education.

  • Seniors! Go to C703 TODAY during lunch or 6th period  for a quiet and supportive space to work on your college applications! Counselors will be there to help with anything you need. Snacks provided!

  • Wrestling starts this week! Contact coach for more information or come by practice from 4-6 every week day. Coaches information on the wrestling page of the website.

  • If you are interested in a health-related career, make sure to attend the Health Careers Expo at Cabrillo. Today is the final day to register. Email or come see Amy in the College and Career Center to secure your spot.

  • Congrats to girls volleyball on making it to the CCS semi-finals! They play at Harbor at 7pm as they take on the Pirates once again. Bring your friends and let’s beat Harbor!

  • The wellness center is now open! Drop by before school, during break or lunch, and after school to see the space and see how it might be helpful for you. Drop in this week and help us create an art mural in the space. We're located in C504.

  • Today at noon a rep from CA State University - Stanislaus will be in the College and Career Center. Stop by to learn more about this school.

10/28 - 10/31

  • Check out Sra. Else's trip to Spain! There's a sale on this week but only until Halloween. Stop by C401 for info!

The categories are most creative, funniest, best duo, scariest, and best staff costume (for teachers and staff only!). The winners will get a big Halloween prize! Also, this Thursday it's time to trick or treat at your favorite teacher's door! Teachers with a pumpkin on their door have candy! Happy Halloween.

  • Are you interested in technology or engineering? Local drone company Eivie is hosting an event discussing career paths, the design of their drone products and demonstrating a test flight of their new revolutionary drone! Join us Oct 30th during during lunch and 7th period in E101, Mr Postovit's room. Sign ups can be found on posters around campus.

  • Haunted House 2024 was a huge success. Thank you to all the students and staff who made it happen. Special shout outs to Mr. Duffy and Ray Leonetti. Your talent and dedication is so appreciated.

  • Come down to the student store today at break to sign up for pumpkin decorating! The decorating will be on Wednesday, Oct 30th in Ms. Nedney's room, see you there!

  • Join the Wellness Center in the Quad tomorrow at Lunch for a cup of Horchata and share with us What Wellness Means to You. Stop by and say hello.

  • Attention Seniors!

     

    Are you considering Cabrillo in the fall? Are you confused by the application process? Do you need an incentive to get the ball rolling?

     

    Then come to room C703 October 29th at lunch to meet with a Cabrillo representative and submit your application. Cookies will be provided, all you need to bring is your laptop. 

     

    If tomorrow doesn't work, we will have another session on Tuesday, November 19th at lunch. Same time, same place (though cookies are not guaranteed). 

     

    If you know you will be attending Cabrillo in the fall, this is a must for you. The application process can be daunting and confusing. Please take the time to come to this workshop where you will be able to work with a Cabrillo Coordinator and ask all the questions you have. 

  • Feliz Dia de los Muertos. You will notice beautiful alters around campus celebrating Hispanic people we cherish. Use the QR codes to hear Spanish students tell you more!

  • Dia de los Muertos is this week. During these days, an alter is placed to honor our loved ones who have passed. join us by the office to celebrate the lives of our dear friends who have left us throughout the years. Happening Wednesday and Thursday! Please feel free to bring a picture for a passed loved one or pet to place on the ofrenda. You are also welcome to bring an item of significance to them. We ask for respect and kindness to those participating.

  • 3 more college reps are coming to visit on Halloween. Loyola Marymont at 9, Whitiier College at 10 and Dominican University of California at noon. You can register on Naviance or see Amy in the College and Career Center to learn more.

10/21 - 10/25

  • Cool off tomorrow with the Wellness Center in the Quad at Break and treat yourself to a Jamba Juice smoothie. Jamba will be selling Mango-a-go-go, Strawberry Swirl and Strawberry Surfrider smoothies for $7 each. Cash or Card accepted.

Please meet Coach Taylor at lunch time in the quad on Thursday, the 24th to fill out a questionnaire and receive additional information regarding the fall, winter and spring baseball schedule.

  • Day 4 of College and Career Week! Come by the College and Career Center to make your own LIFE board and make sure you're on track. And join us at lunch in C703 for pizza and to learn about a career in Marketing. Today's trivia question: What is one of the top 3 most popular colleges with SVHS graduates?

  • Reminder! You are still able to start/create a club for this school year until the deadline of Oct 25th! If you are planning on it, make sure to fill out the club constitution (located in the office or online) and turn it in as soon as possible to Ms. Nedney.

10/15 - 10/18

Also, stop by the quad at break every day this week to watch the homecoming court play some epic games.

  • Homecoming Dance tickets will be on sale in the student store at break and lunch everyday this week! Prices are $3 with ASB seal and $5 without. The dance is the night of the 19th, right after the varsity football game from 9:30-11, doors close at 10pm. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.

  • We have 3 colleges visiting this week. Wednesday at 10am, Puget Sound will be in the College and Career center. Thursday morning, Lewis and Clark and Willamette will be here. Register on Naviance or see Amy in the College and Career Center for more information.

Maybe even free equipment from the Pasatiempo Ladies Club if you sign up before October 4th! Talk to our seniors Maisey & Serena, our junior Lauren, or our freshmen Lizzie & Becca! Or just let the office know you’re in for the Ws!!!

  • If you're interested in playing boys basketball this upcoming season, there will be a basketball meeting in the gym during lunch time lead by Coach Gonzales.

  • Roaring Camp Railroads is looking for volunteers to help with their popular Thomas and Percy Halloween Party. Three weekends in October have morning and after noon shifts available. Reline a little bit of childhood magic while also earning community service hours. See Amy in the College and Career Center to sign up.

  • Interested in hardware and software? The Coding Club is hosting the local tech company Digital Dynamics who will be coming to our school to present on the tech industry and personally teach the basics of hardware and software. Come join us in E101, Mr. Postovit's room on Wednesday Oct 16th 1-3pm. Sign ups can be found at the College and Career Center or on posters around the school.

  • SENIORS we are doing round 2 of Homecoming Court nominations! Your second period teacher should have gotten an email from Mrs. Nedney containing the form you need to fill out and it should be on Google Classroom! The form has the top 20 students for Homecoming court, the top ten will be announced in tomorrow's 2nd period announcements!

  • Homecoming is next week!! Here are the spirit day themes: (there is no school on Monday) Tuesday: Adam Sandler Day, Wednesday: White Lies Wednesday, Thursday: Barbie vs. Army, Friday: Class theme! Throughout the week, Homecoming court will be playing games at break. Homecoming court will be announced tomorrow. Those selected for Homecoming court have a meeting on Friday at Break in Ms. Nedney’s room. 

  • On Saturday, October 19th, there will be tons of Homecoming festivities! The homecoming parade will start at 3pm going from the SV market to the high school. The JV Football game is at 4:30 and the Varsity game is at 7:30. The Future Falcons Festival will be from 4-7 and the Homecoming Dance will go from 9:30-11pm.

  • Cross Country has a home meet TODAY at 4:30! Come support our team! Volleyball senior night is tonight at 6:30! If you’re free come and cheer on our Senior Ava during her last home game at SVHS! Be there and be loud! Football has a game vs Monte Vista tomorrow. Jv is at 5:00 and Varsity is at 7:30!

  • Girls Tennis has a home match today at 4!

  • The SVHS Snack Shack is looking for students to help serve snacks at the JV and Varsity home games at Homecoming, and earn community service! If you are interested, please reach out to Ava Thompson.

9/30 - 10/4

  • Girls golf played SLV at DeLaviega last week and Won 144 to 164.last Tuesday they played Aptos at Seascape and won 159 to 174. Our record is now 4-0. Way to go!

  • Good morning, Falcons! A quick reminder that this Wednesday, October 2, is CBEDS Day. Attendance on this day is very important, as it helps our school with important funding and resources. To make it fun, we’re adding a little incentive—whichever grade level has the best attendance on Wednesday will win a special ice cream treat at the end of the week! So make sure you show up, represent your class, and help us make the most of this important day.

  • Did you lose a shoe, a jacker or a water bottle? How about a pair of shorts or a sweater? If so, come to the office and check out the lost and found before it gets taken away this Friday.

  • Fall is a great time to do community service! There are some fun opportunities coming up, like the Scotts Valley Library book sale, Soquel Elementary Carnival, and the Snack Shack at our home football games. Check the website or with Amy in the college and career center for more information.

  • The senior class is hosting a Taco Tuesday fundraiser on Oct 8th at the River St Chipotle!! Come by to grab some good food! make sure to say you are there for the fundraiser!

  • SENIORS if you are looking for some cool merch to wear on Fridays look no further!! Senior T-shirts, Crewnecks, and Pj pants go on sale Tuesdays and Thursdays at break next week!! Come by and grab a pair T-shirts are $25, crewnecks are $35 and pjs are $40!!

  • Congratulations to the Junior Class for having the best attendance on Wednesday! To celebrate, every junior will receive an ice cream treat at break. Be sure to hold onto your ticket, which you will receive right now, and use it to redeem your ice cream at break. Great job, juniors-keep up the excellent attendance! To celebrate the incredible attendance on Wednesday from every grade level, we're treating everyone to an Otter Pop on Friday at break!   • Yesterday marked the start of Banned Books Week. Did you know that the book 1984 by George Orwell is the most banned book of all time? Stop by the library to check out other banned books!

  • Come to Music at Skypark this Sunday Sept 29th for an afternoon of free concerts. All proceeds benefit our art and music programs. The first concert starts at 1:30 and our very own SVHS choir sings at 3. The last concert goes to 5:30. See you there!

  • Girls volleyball plays at home tonight against Harbor at 7pm. Bring your friends and your friend’s friends - we need to pack the house. Let’s go Falcons!

  • September is Suicide Prevention month. Come join the Hope Squad at lunch for an activity and lemonade. We can all work together to support our friends and family.

  • Looking for Community Service Hours and want to support mental health awareness in our own community? This Saturday at Skypark, you can get community service for cheering on walkers at the Out of the Darkness Walk being put on by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. You can show up to the Volunteer Booth at 8:30am The walk goes until 2pm but come for as long as you can. Contact Ms. Hershey and Ms. Wahl if you have any questions!

  • Cross country has their first home meet of the season today at 4:30! Make sure that you come support our team as they defeat SLV on our home course! 

  • Football has a home game this Saturday vs North Monterey County! JV at 11 and Varsity at 2. Make sure to come support by wearing black to match the team!

  • Come watch our girls volleyball team destroy Aptos at home tonight! Freshmen/frosh at 4:00, JV at 5:00, and Varsity at 6:30! Let’s pack the house!

  • Yesterday marked the start of Banned Books Week. Did you know that the book 1984 by George Orwell is the most banned book of all time? Stop by the library to check out other banned books! 

  • Come to Music at Skypark  this Sunday Sept 29th for an afternoon of free concerts.  All proceeds benefit our art and music programs. The first concert starts at 1:30 and our very own SVHS choir sings at 3. The last concert ends at 5:30. See you there!

  • The sophomore class has a fundraiser at Chipotle THIS SUNDAY from 4-9pm on River St in Santa Cruz. Remember to say you're there for the fundraiser!

  • Boys Soccer Pre-Season Meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 1st at the beginning of lunch (1:40pm) behind the gym – information about pre-season conditioning, tryouts, and the fall season will be shared. If you plan on trying out for Boys Soccer this fall, please plan on attending so you can meet the coaches and gather important information. There will be a Varsity and a Junior Varsity Boys Soccer team this year.

  • Chicharrones are going to be given out today during lunch to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! Also, there will be a Loteria game next Monday during lunch, and winners will get a gift certificate to Los Gallos!

  • And finally, we are announcing the theme of this year’s 25th anniversary Homecoming! The 2024 Homecoming Theme is…DON’T STOP THE BEAT!!! Seniors are representing country music, Juniors are pop, Sophomores are rap, and Freshmen are rock! Homecoming week will take place between October 15th-19th with tons of fun festivities including a spirit week! The spirit days are Adam Sandler Tuesday, White Lies Wednesday, Barbie vs. Army Thursday, and Class Theme Friday, there is no school that Monday! If you are interested in being part of your class's lip sync or float builds and activities, come to the tables in front of the Student Union at break!

  • Are you interested in helping launch the first Wellness Center on campus? The Student Wellness Committee is looking for students who want to promote well being on campus and help create a wellness center that benefits all students and represents YOUR interests and needs. Commitment requires attending meetings once every two weeks. We need help with everything from art & design to promoting & hosting events. Scan the QR code on the flyers outside the attendance office and library to express your interest.

They help to support the work of those in Guatemala and Nicaragua, while providing them with fair wages.   • Get a head start on your community service hours! Kiwanis needs volunteer help for Music at Skypark on August 25th. Contact Mike Rein at 535 8316. Information will be posted in the College and Career Center.

  • Are you interested in earning community service during your Tutorial class? Mr. Postovit is recruiting peer tutors. If you're interested in learning more, come to the information meeting during Tutorial on Thursday. Just request a transfer to Mr. Postovit's tutorial that day, in E101.

  • ID cards are in and will be available for pick up in the student store starting today at break through next Wednesday.

  • Attention all students new to our school district. Student Government is hosting a lunch in your honor this Friday in the student union. Join us for for free food, meet all the class reps and enter to win prizes. See you there!

  • Interested in playing girls volleyball? Tryouts are this Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 pm in the gym. More detail on the website.

The countdown is on for one of the most thrilling events of the year- The Amazing Race is happening on August 30th! It’s a fierce competition between students as they tackle wild challenges. Want in?
