Weekly Announcements 2023-24:

2/26 - 3/1

  • Danica Kelley became only the 5th athlete in Santa Cruz county history to win a state wrestling championship this past weekend in Bakersfield. Congrats Danica, Scotts Valley High School is very proud of you.

  • Attention Juniors, Seniors, and especially Sophomores! Are you a good student with a high GPA and want to be part of a nationally recognized honor society? You should join CSF! Application packets for the Fall 2023 semester are available and due in the office by Friday March 15th. Go to the CSF page of the SVHS website for instructions and application packet forms. 

  • TODAY is the last day to tryout for girls beach volleyball.  Please make sure you are registered in Family ID.  3:30-5:30pm at main beach.

  • Today is the first day of Culture Week. For international candy day we will have a bunch of international candy in the student store during lunch. Drop by if you want to taste sweet treats from around the world.

  • Seniors if you are interested in being a Senior Servant you need to attend the meeting in Ms. Nedney's room this Friday March 1st at break.

  • Happy second day of Culture Week! Today is art day. Come down to the Quad if you want to get some henna done.

  • The Kestrel Editorial Club is excited to announce the publication of The Kestrel, SVHS's student-run newspaper!   • Happy Wednesday! Today is Day 3 of Culture Week - music day. Come down to the quad and enjoy some festive tunes from around the world. Tomorrow is the rally so note that there is a different schedule!

  • We hope you all enjoyed the rally yesterday. Today we are ending culture week with international game day! Come down to the quad to play some cultural games and end your week on a fun note.

  • Today- Friday, bring your lunch to Sra. Else's room 401 if you are interested in the Costa Rica trip. The deadline for the trip is approaching.

  • Need community service hours? Wednesday March 6th and 13th we will have campus spruce-up days after school. See Amy Paul for more information.

  • There is a boys volleyball game tonight vs Carmel @home, game starts at 6:30! 

  • Polar plunge is THIS saturday March 2nd and our theme is super hero’s. If you want to join sign up through the link on the Asb instagram. Check out the polar plunge website for more information. Hope to see you there!

  • March 6th and 13th is Campus day! If you are in need of some community service stop by from 2:50 to 4:20pm to help clean your campus!!!

  • The student run newspaper, The Kestrel website is up and running!! check out svhskestrel.com for more info and news! 

  • We hope everyone’s culture week has been going well and that you have enjoyed the activities during lunch. Today is the rally day so you will go with your second period class to the rally. Have fun! 

  • Art night is tonight so make sure to stop by and see the amazing art your fellow students have made. It’s from 6-9 pm in the student union.

2/20 - 2/23

  • If you are on the wrestling team and ordered photos, they have arrived! So, swing by the front office to pick up your wresting photos today!

  • Seniors - if you are attending Cabrillo in the fall, there will be a Placement Workshop on Wednesday, February 21st. You should have received an email with your workshop time. If you have not received your email, contact Amy Paul in the College and Career Center.

  • Green Team work day is this Sunday 2/25 from 12-3. Drop by if you need some community service!

  • Seniors - the deadline to sign up for Magic Mountain @ the early-bird price of $250 is this Friday 2/23. Prices go up on Monday, 2/26 and your spot on the trip is not guaranteed so buy early.

  • Senior Panoramic is this Thursday 2/22 during tutorial weather permitting. Make sure to be a part of this historic event!

  • Boys volleyball has their first home games this week Thursday and Friday evening at 6:30pm. Bring your friends and support our volleyball team!

  • Interact Club has organized a campus beautification day on Friday, February 23rd starting at 3:10pm We would appreciate your help. Come receive community service hours by improving our own school. We hope to see you there.

  • Do you need community service? There is a fabric and craft supply flea market this weekend and they need lost of help Saturday and Sunday. Go to the community service page on the school website to sign up.

  • The Winter Play "Death, Divas and Dreams: a night of 10 minute musicals and plays" is this Saturday, Feb 24th at 5:30 and 8:00pm at the SVHS Student Union. Tickets are $12 general and $10 students and seniors. The link is on the SVHS homepage. We hope to see you there.

  • Seniors- Grad gowns and announcement pick up is today, 2/23, at break and lunch in the student store.

  • Boys volleyball had their first win of the season against PCS last night. Tito Palma recorded a career high of 15 kills. The team is back in action at home tonight as they take on North Salinas at 6:30 PM.

  • Scotts Valley baseball is hosting a pasta dinner night! Come support your baseball falcons on February 25th at the moose lodge @5pm. Tickets are available now, message @svhs.baseball on instagram for more details

  • There is a campus beautification event tomorrow after school at 3:10! come support our district wide initiative to care for our environment! you can get community service as well

  • Polar plunge sign ups are going on right now, click the link on the ASB instagram to sign up! The plunge takes place on March 2nd from 10-1:30 

  • The spring dance, Butterfly Garden will be hosted on March 22nd! Tickets will go on sale soon! keep a look out 

  • SENIORS Magic Mountain early bird tickets are on sale for $250 till tomorrow!! Prices go up after that, and your spot isn’t guaranteed. the trip is May 17th-18th! 

  • SENIORS grad gowns and announcements arrive tomorrow! come to the student store at break or lunch to pick yours up! 

  • SENIORS the panorama is TODAY during tutorial, come down to the football field at the start of tutorial 

  • Next week is culture week where we are going to be celebrating a bunch of different culture here at svhs and around the world. Each day is a new theme and activity

  • Monday is international candy day so we will have candy in the student store

  • Tuesday is art day so people will be doing henna for you in the quad. 

  • Wednesday is international music day so we will be playing music in the quad.

  • Thursday is the rally day, note that the schedule will be different!

  • And Friday is international games day so we’ll have a bunch of different games to play in the quad. We hope you enjoy!

  • The Interact Club is doing a feminine products drive! All of the collected items will be donated to the Walnut Avenue Women and Family Center. Collection bins can be found in the front office, library and in Ms Kindell's room.

2/5 - 2/9

  • Boy’s Golf Team PRACTICE CANCELLATION FOR MONDAY 2/5 due to rain……The first practice has been moved to next Monday, February 12th at 4:00 (immediately after school). 

  • If anyone is still interested in joining the softball team and has not yet signed up, please contact Coach Wilson or talk to Coach Walters. We are hoping to get a JV team together. Also, there is a softball Parent Meeting Thursday, Feb 8th at 6pm in W2.

  • Stop by the library today at lunch to watch the Squid Game Challenge. Will the students be able to free the shape without breakng the honeycomb candy?

  • The junior class has a Los Gallos Fundraiser this Friday the 9th at the Victor Square location. Please stop by and say you're from SVHS.

  • Show your friends how much you care for them by sending them a singing valentine! Stop by the student store from Monday, Feb. 5 to Thursday, Feb. 8 to purchase yours. Or scan the QR Code on the flyer around campus. $5 gets you a card, candy, and a singing gram performed by the SVHS Choir. Singing grams will be delivered on Monday, Feb. 12. Happy Valentine's Day from the SVHS Music Department!

  • Tomorrow is Lunar New Year, a celebration of the new year based on the lunar calendar. Celebrated by many cultures, families share food and go to parades with fireworks and lion and dragon dances.

1/29 - 2/2

  • Attention 10th and 11th graders! The PreACT will be offered at SVHS on Saturday, Feb 3rd. To sign up, bring $25 to the front office. See Amy Paul in the College and Career for more information.

  • Swim practice starts this week, Monday -Thursday at SLVHS 5:30- 7pm

  • Students, come to a meeting on Jan 31st at lunch in Sra. Else's room to hear about a variety of bilingual volunteer opportunities. To qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy, you must show proof that 20 hours of bilingual community service were completed. This is a great way to make a dent in those hours.

  • Softball tryouts on Monday, Jan. 29 @ 4 weather permitting. All people interested in trying out must have their physical complete and Family ID filled out before tryouts. You are unable to tryout without having those two items completed. Any questions contact the coach. Parent/Team meeting on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6 pm in room W2. Players and at least one parent minimum must attend.

  • There will be a Boys Golf informational meeting and sign ups on Monday, Jan 29th in front of the gym at the start of lunch (1:20pm). Be sure to come if you are interested in playing.

  • Squid Games is coming to the SVHS Library! Try your hand at freeing the shape from the honeycomb candy circle on Monday, Feb 5th at lunch. Spaces are limited, so stop by the library and sign up with Mrs. Walpole.

  • Looking for volunteers for help run the SCCAL Wrestling League Tournament. Please contact Coach Reyes for details.

  • The Administration Office will close at 2:30 on Wednesday Jan 31st, please plan ahead.

  • Seniors! If you are considering going to Cabrillo in the fall. now is the time to apply. Cabrillo counselors will be here today, 1/31, 12:45-2:00 to help you with your applications. This will be the last application workshop of the year.

  • Seniors- Are you interested in the Cabrillo College Honors program? Come to an informational meeting during Tutorial in the office.

  • Seniors! Are you planning on going to Cabrillo College in the fall? Maybe even as a back option? It is now time to apply and our last Cabrillo Application Workshop is Wednesday, Jan 31st from 12:45-2:00 in room M10.

  • Seniors! It is time to start thinking about scholarships. Come to our Scholarship Workshop where you will be shown where to find scholarships, how to apply and which scholarships you will qualify for. Workshop will be held Thursday, Jan 25th during tutorial in room E101.

  • Need a Valentine's gift for a loved one? This week is the last week to put in a See's Candy Order. ORDERS DUE BU JAN 26th. Find your Class of 2026 rep.

If you are bringing a guest that does not go to SVHS you must have a completed guest permission slip in order to buy their ticket. Permission slips are available in the office and on the school website. Note: tickets will not be sold at the door, sales end Friday at lunch.

  • Battle of the Bands Signups officially opened last Friday, the 12th. Get the chance to play in front of an audience and compete for a $250 cash prize! Signups open in Mrs. Nedney's room this Friday during break & lunch and last until the 19th.

  • The Blanket and Jacket Drive is going on right now. Drop off all of your extra coats in the front office. It goes until Jan 25th so get them in as soon as possible.

Well, Southern Oregon University is holding a virtual application workshop with the admissions counselor. This workshop will be for SVHS students only and he will work closely with you to answer any questions. You can join in from home or come to the College and Career Center. The workshop is tomorrow, 1/18 at 2pm. Please see Amy Paul in the College and Career Center if interested.

1/8 - 1/12

  • Auditions for the Spring Musical The Addams Family will be the week of Jan 15th! vocal auditions are Monday 1/15 and Tuesday 1/16 at 4pm. Please memorize a 1 minute sections of a musical theatre song and find an accompanying piano or karaoke track. Sign up for an auditions spot on Mrs. K's website. Break a leg!

  • Over the break, our beautiful student Nicole Keller passed away. Today and every day we celebrate her incredible life. All of our students are special and unique an this loss reminds us of how precious and important our connection is to each other. SVHS staff and students have created a special space on our campus to provide a place to celebrate and honor Nicole's life. This support space is ready to welcome students and staff. Please stop by for some comfort, support, and friendship. Falcons support each other through hard times. C509 will be open all day. Please stop by for a waffle, hot chocolate and a rest.

12/11 - 12/15

  • Today the Santa Cruz Public Library will be at out library to get all freshmen and new students public library cards. Stop by the library if you have questions.

  • Are you a musician or interested in performing at the battle of the bands? Next week, Wed Dec 13th, there will be a Band Building fair during lunch at the SU. Show up, find our table, fill out our virtual form from the QR code and connect with other musicians. The goal of this event is to fill in existing bands and start new ones to perform at the contest. Your incentive is a cash prize for the winning band, and the invaluable experience of live stage and band performance. Battle of the Bands is in January. Battle of the Bands is on Jan 26th and official sign ups are two weeks earlier.

All proceeds will be donated to the Thai Terra Cycle Foundation to remove plastic from waterways and provide resources to people to maintain a more sustainable lifestyle.   • Welcome to Focus Week and happy Stress Less Week! Stop by the lunch lines today at break and write some tips to help students students study for finals to earn a candy.

  • On Monday, 12/18, during break, Parent Club will be providing hot chocolate, tea, #2 pencils and highlighters for students at the Student Union.

  • Reminder "The Nest" gifts are due this Friday! If you picked a name up, it is due on Friday wrapped with the tag on it!

  • Relieve some tension and stress by joining us at the Library, Wednesday, during break and lunch. There we will be stress free coloring.

  • Thank you all for participating in the canned food drive. We brought in 500 cans as a school! The top 3 classes were Lykins (#1), Aiello (#2) and Leonard (#3). Lykins class will get a donut party and the other two classes will get candy!!

  • On Wednesday, 11/29 the SVHS front office will be closing at 2:30pm so that our office staff can attend an off-site District Office Staff meeting in person. The doors will be closed and locked directly after as school administrators, teachers and counselors will be in PD starting at 3:00pm. Attention students: any items left in the office need to be picked up from the office by the end of lunch.

  • Sadly, Falcon Check was not won before our Thanksgiving Break. Although it is up for grabs this Friday for $10. Make sure to wear maroon and gold on Fridays.

  • Next week is Respect Week. Monday's focus is respect yourself, wear white....Reminder that Wednesday we have a guest speaker and we will be on an assembly long block schedule.

  • The first volleyball game of the season at home is 8/24 - Varsity 4pm and JV 5:30pm

  • Attention Falcon Lady Golfers: The girls golf season starts in a few short weeks. It doesn't matter if you're an experienced player, or if you're a beginner using loaner clubs. Please come join Coach Anders for an intro meeting on Wed August 23 at the start of lunch in front of the gym.

  • If you are new to SVUSD this year we would love to officially welcome and meet you at our New Student Luncheon this Friday. Come to the SU at lunch for free lunch and treats.

  • The SVHS Game Club and eSports team are getting started this year with an informational meeting this Friday, August 18th at lunch in room M9. eSports will be a competitive tournament-based team participating in games such as Smash Ultimate, Apex Legends or League of Legends. The Game Club is a casual group where students can play what they want and make some new gamer friends. To learn more, email Mr Stone or come to our meeting Friday at lunch M9.

  • There will be a meeting this Thursday at the beginning of lunch period in front of the gym for all girls interested to play basketball this year.

  • Anyone interested in helping transform our campus with sustainable gardening practices please come to the 1st Green Team meeting of the year this Wednesday at lunch in room C302.
