Regular school attendance is important for a consistent and continuous educational program. The State of California expects students to be in school every day unless they are ill or contagious.
More importantly we want to see your child at school so they can foster social skills and feel academic success. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. Start building this habit in TK/kindergarten so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college. Good school attendance is important for fiscal reasons and for life long learning and positive habits of mind. "Days off" for reasons other than illness or emergencies are costly, not only to our budget, but also to the development of academic, study, and life skills. Regular school attendance is important for the promotion of a consistent and continuous education program.

PHONE CALLS/TEXTS: In effort to record accurate daily attendance, we will notify you if your child is not in class and we have not received a phone call or email from you. A phone call/text goes out each day at 10:00am. We will make every attempt to stop further automatic robo-notification once you have contacted us, but there may be moments when those notifications push out ahead of us inputting attendance updates. We thank you in advance for your patience during this very busy time of morning.
LETTER NOTIFICATIONS: We are required by law to notify you if your child becomes truant and/or chronically absent. This is a state requirement.
Come to the office. We will give your child a "slip" and make sure they are marked correctly in our system.
If you are 30 minutes late or more please make sure to let us know the reason so we can code your your child's tardy appropriately.
Call the office before 8:30 am (831)-423-2454.
When your child is absent, please call the school office before 8:30 a.m. (keep in mind our robo-calls go out at 10am daily). Leave a message stating your name, your child’s name and the name of his/her teacher, the date of the absence, and the reason for the absence.
If you do not call in the absence, the absences will be coded as "unverified" which is unexcused.
If your child will be out of school for 3 consecutive days or more, a Short Term Independent Study Contract can be used for the days that your child will be out of school, up to 15 total school days per year.
Please remember that we need sufficient time to gather the work for your child. We recommend a minimum of 10 days prior to your child's leave of absence. If you are able to apply sooner than that it is strongly encouraged.
A contract must be signed in advance of the date the independent study begins and the work must be turned in on the date specified in the contract (usually the first day student returns back to school). We are also required by State regulations to keep an original sample of your child's work. The work will be evaluated by your child's teacher and must be the equivalent of a day's schoolwork.
No Independent Study will be granted in the first 10 days of the school year.
As a California public school, we receive funding only for the actual days the students are physically in school. We no longer receive funding when students are out ill or for other excused absences.
