9th Grade Math Placement
Senate Bill 359 requires school districts to develop, establish, and implement fair, objective and transparent mathematics placement policies that consider multiple objective measures as the basis for placement and permit multiple checkpoints to assess placement accuracy and student progress, especially at the start of the academic year.
SV Middle School 8th graders will take the Math 1 or Math 2 Placement exam in the Spring.
Parents will receive notification of high school placement after results are processed.
Parents may request a meeting with staff to discuss placement and provide additional information for consideration.
Students interested in taking our most rigorous math pathway, the Math Academy, must complete the application process. Contact your students counselor for more information:
- Last name A-K: Sarah Hershey
- Last name L-Z: Christie Danner
- Math 1 or Math 2 Placement examination
- administered in spring of 8th grade yr.
- 8th grade math CAASPP scores
- state standardized assessment
- 8th grade math course and grade
- Local benchmark assessments
- 8th grade teacher recommendation
Incoming 9th grade students new to the district will be provided an opportunity to take the Placement exam and provide additional information.
